Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Opening Concert
PYO opens its landmark 87th season and celebrates Maestro Louis Scaglione’s 30th Anniversary with PYOMI with a program featuring two distinguished guest artists. Organist Peter Richard Conte, Wanamaker Grand Court Organist, joins the orchestra as soloist in both Richard Strauss’ Festival Prelude, a majestic and celebratory opening, and Saint-Saëns’s monumental Symphony No. 3, the “Organ Symphony,” culminating in one of the repertoire’s most exhilarating finales. Violinist Michael Ludwig, former Associate Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra, also joins PYO for Barber’s lyrical and deeply expressive Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Winter Concert
PYO’s spring program continues the celebration of Maestro Louis Scaglione’s 30th Anniversary with PYOMI, pairing an intimate concerto with one of the choral-orchestral repertoire’s greatest achievements. Rising cellist Andres Sanchez-Linares (PYO ’22), a Curtis Institute of Music and New England Conservatory alumnus and First Prize Winner of the 2026 Sphinx Competition, is the soloist in Schumann’s introspective Cello Concerto. The concert concludes with Verdi’s towering Requiem, featuring Academy of Vocal Arts alumni as vocal soloists alongside the Mendelssohn Chorus of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra 87th Annual Festival Concert
PYO closes its historic 87th season with a spectacular Annual Festival Concert celebrating and culminating Maestro Louis Scaglione’s 30th Anniversary with PYOMI. The season-defining program opens with a newly commissioned work by American composer Paul Frucht, whose music has been praised for its “individual voice” and “sense of lyricism, driving pulse, and great urgency.” Frucht previously wrote a double bass concerto premiered by PYO in the 2024–25 season, featuring Ranaan Myer as soloist. Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra David Kim returns as soloist for Bruch’s beloved Scottish Fantasy, and the concert concludes with Mahler’s epic Symphony No. 1, “Titan.”
This landmark performance brings PYO’s 87th season, and a yearlong celebration of Maestro Scaglione’s three decades of leadership, to a powerful and unforgettable conclusion.
