PMAY Workshop: “A Young Musician’s Guide to Instrument Care”

We are excited to present in-person workshop with David Michie, at his violin shop in Rittenhouse. This event is designed to help students learn how to properly care for their string instruments, stay on top of routine maintenance, and better understand the instrument purchasing process. David Michie is a classically trained violinist and expert luthier who has operated his Philadelphia business for over 35 years. Based in his renowned shop near Rittenhouse Square, he is a mainstay of the local music scene, specializing in the restoration and sale of fine instruments.

David currently serves as the Concertmaster of the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey (PSNJ). Beyond his performance career, he remains deeply involved in the community as a member of the PYO Music Institute Board of Trustees. Through this role, he provides instruments and support for young musicians through programs such as Tune Up Philly, the Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth (PMAY), and The Primavera Fund. When he is not in the workshop or on stage, he is an avid rower on the Schuylkill River.
