PMAY Masterclass: Creston Herron, Violin

Join us for a violin masterclass with Creston Herron, Coordinator of Orchestras at Interlochen Center for the Arts at Settlement Music School, in Presser Hall. Creston Herron is currently the Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Kansas and Coordinator of Orchestras at the Interlochen Arts Camp.

Prior to these positions, he served as the Director of Fine Arts at Klein ISD; conductor of the Campanile Orchestra at Rice University, Shepherd School of Music; Director of Orchestras and Fine Arts Department Chair at Klein High School; and the Director of Orchestras at YES Prep Public Schools (Houston, Texas). Under his direction, the Klein Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra have been recognized as the TMEA String Honor Orchestra; national winners of the Mark of Excellence Competition; Grand Champions of the coveted Orchestra Cup at the National Orchestra Cup Finals held in New York City; Grand Champions of the ASTA National Orchestra Festival; and national winners of The American Prize. Recently, the Klein Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at the 75th Midwest Clinic, which was held in December 2021.

His orchestral experience includes performances with Trans-Siberian Orchestra; CCM Spoleto Festival in Italy; Pasadena Philharmonic; Galveston Symphony; concertmaster of the Eutiner Festspiele Opera in Eutin, Germany; and Houston Latin Philharmonic.

As a conductor, he has studied conducting and participated in master classes with Dr. Clif Evans, Gary Lewis, Larry Livingston, Larry Rachleff, and Don Schleicher.

Herron was recognized in 2017 as the Teacher of the Year at Klein High School and was awarded the 2018 Marjorie Keller Outstanding Young Teacher of the Year Award by the State Board of the Texas Chapter of The American String Teacher’s Association. The Houston Symphony awarded Herron with the Spec’s Charitable Award for Excellence in Music Education. He is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association.
